Fish-A-Thon 2010: Team Guiding America
Craig Davis & Ken Krailck
Minneapolis MN
Fishing: Lake Calhoun
Issue: Shorline trash from homes and pedestrians

Minneapolis is well known for its beautiful parks and the crown jewel of the city is the Chain of Lakes on the Southwest side of the city. Lake Calhoun is the biggest lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the shining glory in this valuable Chain of Lakes. Surrounded by a large city park land and circled by bike and walking trails, Lake Calhoun is popular for many outdoor activities.
The area is heavily used through spring and summer and the resource is feeling the burden. Although a Clean Water Partnership, composed of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, Hennepin County, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, and the Cities of Minneapolis and St. Louis Park take an active role in upkeep, the shoreline still needs help. Specifically during the active months when Partnership volunteers cannot keep up and the shoreline of Lake Calhoun can begin to appear as a collective dumping ground for pedestrian trash.
The Solution: Our team will take an active role through promoting awareness of the delicate balance of city parks and urban populations. We will raise money and donate time for shoreline cleanup initiatives.
